You asked:

I’m staying on campus this summer, and this place has turned into a ghost town. I don’t know what to do with myself. Any suggestions?

Even though cities and towns that are primarily based around the university seem deserted during the summer, there is still plenty to do -- you just have to look for it! Take this time to explore the town, and …

Focus on your fitness and health. Start a workout routine and use this time to work on your physical self. Check out some of the local gyms to see if student discounts are offered. Maybe even work with a personal trainer a few times to nail down a routine.

Explore the great outdoors. Chances are your town has some great parks that you haven’t had the chance to explore while in school. A lot of these parks have rec leagues for baseball and other sports. Often parks-and-rec councils sponsor morning runs or yoga.

Catch up on what you’ve missed. Are there movies or books that came out during the school year that you haven’t been able to read or watch? Take this time to leisurely catch up.

Work on campus. Scope out the student jobs website for any openings on campus. Many offices need assistants during the summer to help with new student orientation or admissions recruitment. Also look into applying to work in your specific program’s department on campus.

Get ahead of the game. Prepare for next semester. Go to the library and check out the books you are going to need for the fall. Get your schedule in order for the next semester by marking off all vacations and commitments in a planner so you are ready and organized when school starts.
