Top 10 Things to Check off Your List Before Leaving Campus You’ve finally earned that diploma, and now it’s time to say goodbye to your college campus digs (and unless you’re Van Wilder, who knows how long it’ll be till you’re back). Here are a few things you must be sure to do before bidding your campus adieu: Photo: @iStockphoto.com/KoKimk Revisit every classroom. Just going back will jog your memories and, hopefully, something useful you learned there! Send thank-you notes to inspirational teachers. They’ll feel good. You’ll feel good. And you just might pave the way for a new LinkedIn friend! Request an exit interview. Complain about the things that really ticked you off during your four years and suggest some changes. But also let the administration know what you loved so they can keep doin’ what they’re doin’! See everything. Tour every building. Walk on every sidewalk. Attack every staircase. You’re leaving for good! Don’t let there be a place where you haven’t set foot. Leave your legacy. Be it your initials under a desk in the library or on the door of a bathroom stall, find a spot to mark as your own. See who’s living in your old dorm rooms. Make a surprise visit and give them some alum advice. Photo: @iStockphoto.com/knape Show a freshman who’s boss. Use your senior standing as social seniority. It’s only acceptable during this last semester. Photo: @iStockphoto.com/mrod Don’t hold back. Speak up and take a stand for yourself. If a grade is unfair, do something. Take action. After four years of compliance, you’ve earned that right. Don’t check out too soon. As Albert Einstein said, “It’s a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.” Let yourself learn right up until graduation and beyond. Do something to make yourself stand out on campus. Write a controversial article. Go through a day of classes wearing the mascot’s mask. Individualize. Don’t graduate as a mere number. Photo: @iStockphoto.com/RyanJLane About the Author
