Most of the time, students either leave their coat behind or find a place to stash it out of the way. At a party, it's not a good idea to put your coat in someone's room -- anyone who’s found a locked door and had to go home without a coat at the end of the night will tell you that. Any time you leave your coat and walk away, you're taking a risk that it will be damaged, dirty or missing when you return. So if you know someone in charge, ask to put your coat somewhere safe.
If you’re headed to a party or club where there’s no coat check, the crowd will keep the temperatures toasty anyway, so consider leaving your coat at home or in the car. If you're worried you’ll freeze, put on a warm sweater over that T-shirt. Wear a scarf and gloves that can be stuffed into a pocket or bag for extra warmth, if needed.
In the end, you have three choices: One, carry your coat; two, don't wear it; or three, entrust it with someone else and hope it's still there at the end of the night. If you must leave your coat, remove valuables from pockets and keep them with you. Better to lose clothing than to go home without your clothing, wallet and phone.
Forget the printer
A well-kept secret of college: You don’t really need a printer. Submit your work electronically or print it in the computer labs found in nearly every building to save space and money.
Here are a few lessons that you may not realize you're absorbing.
