If you're like most college students, you picked your college based on the distance away from home. But when it comes time to make the trek homeward, it's a drag being stuck in silence -- every minute seemingly lasts for hours. Here are a few ways to make the trip a little more bearable, whether you’re driving alone or with a friend.
GPS
Getting lost will guarantee a longer trip. Get a Global Positioning Satellite navigator. Take your next school rebate check to any electronics store and stay on course.
Music. Duh!
Whether you listen to Lil Wayne or Modest Mouse, your favorite artist will swoon away the minutes. Singing along will help too (even if you don’t know the words).
The Art of Conversation
Whether you’re talking to a pal or to yourself, a good old convo should not be overlooked. Agree, disagree or remain indifferent. Any way you do it should take your mind off the time.

Phone Calls
The drive home is a good time to take care of all those calls you failed to make because of your class schedule. Give Grandma a call -- she might not be the most interesting person to converse with, but you might as well get it out of the way. Use hands-free methods to keep your hands on the wheel. And no texting while driving!
Stand-up
Laughter is one of the best ways to pass the time. Pick up a Dane Cook or Daniel Tosh album and you’ll arrive at your destination in no time -- and in jolly good spirits!
Mental Exercise
Studies have shown the act of simply thinking about something can actually increase your performance. Why not think about math while you're on the road to ensure an A on that next exam? We know, you just took finals. So you could also perfect your pong skills.
Safe Snacking
People eat when they're bored. Does it help? Who knows, but don’t Skittles sound good when you see that “Rest Stop Ahead” sign?
Learn a Language
Plenty of foreign-language teaching programs offer audio versions of their lessons to play while in traffic. There's a long way to go until you're home, so you might as well learn another way to say, “Are we there yet?”
Pick on Passers
Make a funny face at the snot-nosed brat in the minivan next to you. Stick your tongue out at the old man going 25 in a 55. Wave at a complete stranger like you’re roommates. Leave your blinkers on for miles, and watch people freak.

Audio Book
Lose yourself in the literary world of your favorite author. Harry Potter read by a British chick would be an almost instantaneous trip to your destination. Or try Jack Kerouac's On The Road.

Forget the printer
A well-kept secret of college: You don’t really need a printer. Submit your work electronically or print it in the computer labs found in nearly every building to save space and money.
