You asked:
I’m taking some courses over summer vacation, but they are so intense and overwhelming that I’m hardly getting a break. Any advice on how to deal?
Classes during the summer tend to have a heavier workload because the professors are cramming a lot of information into a short amount of time. The key is to realize that, even though it’s summer, schoolwork is still your priority. To help manage your time and your stress level, just follow a few easy steps:
Budget your time. Instead of cramming everything in last minute, try to complete some work each night. Set aside a regular time and commit to it. The more you follow the guidelines you set, the more you will stick to them.
Rest up. Your brain won’t function as well if you aren’t taking breaks to have a bit of fun in between school assignments. Make sure you are getting the rest you need. Good sleep habits are very important for staying focused.
Work in a quiet space. Find a place where you know you won’t be distracted. This can be a local cafe, the library or a lounge in your residence hall. Try a few spots out and see where you work best.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Professors are available just as much in the summer as they are during the school year. Go during office hours to talk about how to balance the work, and ask for suggestions. If you are feeling too stressed, a professor might even offer extensions on assignments.
