You asked:

What am I supposed to do with myself when I’m sexiled from my room?

Ah, the infamous sexile … not fun for anyone, but a common occurrence in the college dorm experience. If you can’t get into your room, see if someone else’s room is available. Most friends won’t leave you sitting in the hall. Or you can go to the library to study or get a head start on that paper. Hey, you might as well use the time to your advantage. Even if you can’t get to your textbooks, most libraries have copies of the books in use on campus so you could borrow one for a little while. Many libraries also have DVDs and AV equipment, so go watch a movie you’ve never seen. If it’s a nice day, get some exercise by going for a walk. Just about any activity you usually enjoy is still fun when you’ve been temporarily locked out of your room, so be creative and figure out something to keep you occupied for a while. If this gets to be a habit and is totally disrupting your life, remind your roommate that you live there too and would at the very least appreciate having access to your belongings. If nothing else works? Well, bang on the door incessantly.
